Acupuncture Alchemy

This business is located in a basement below a hair salon that I designed. The space was challenging since it had no windows and there were black pipes on the ceiling and walls. I had to create a space that was open and inviting; a space that inspired healing.

Main room

This is the view from the back door where you can see most of the space. It shows how the space was divided into different areas, but remains open. A wall decal was added on a very long wall to add interest in an economical way.

Acupuncture area

I used curtains to define the acupuncture tables and work area. It adds softness to an area that has a lot of pipes and hard surfaces. Painting the pipes the same color as the wall and ceiling make them blend more into the surroundings. Soothing artwork greets the patients as they enter the space.

Waiting area

The waiting area is across from the acupuncture service area. Some of the pipes couldn't be painted and most are behind the wooden screen. The curve of the screen creates an area for seating where customers can wait and relax.

This wall has many pipes, a lot of which couldn't be painted. A wooden screen hides most of them and a faux tree adds a touch of nature.

Office and Kitchenette

The office and kitchenette are divided by bookcases that provide storage for both areas. A small dining space is opposite the kitchenette, and some shelves with herbs are opposite the office near the acupuncture area. Faux plants are dispersed throughout the space to add some life to the basement.

The space contains an office, bathroom, and a kitchenette with a dining area.

The bookcases between the office and kitchenette divide the areas and add storage, but they don't feel heavy. They also provide another opportunity to add some greenery.Shelving with jars of herbs utilize a small indent in the wall. Adjacent is a wall tree decal.

Bathroom

A dingy bathroom was revitalized with new paint, lighting, artwork, a mirror, and accessories. The new flooring that was used in the main space was also installed in the bathroom. Storage was added, while still keeping the wheelchair accessibility.
