Addison Cottage

The owner of this Berkeley house wanted an open concept for the cute cottage before putting it on the market. He hired NurtureSource to create a new layout and execute the work. I partnered with them and the homeowner to create the look and feel of the house. The staging was done by the realtor.

Front of the house

I chose a house and front door color that would add energy and excitement to the exterior. The new door location provides more usable space in the living room and a more attractive front entrance. The large front door lets in light while providing privacy. A bench was added to provide a quiet area to hang out and enjoy the landscaped front garden.

Living Room

Moving the front door and the closet door by the hallway adds much more usable space to this room. The wall separating the living room from the kitchen and dining area was removed to create a large open area.

Kitchen and Dining Area

A white kitchen contrasts beautifully with the dark stone floors and the wall of blue tile. The side door was removed to create a better flow and allow for a washer and dryer to be installed. Removing the interior walls made the space bright and open while enhancing functionality.

Kitchen, dining, and laundry all fit beautifully in this space.

Bathrooms

I kept the materials consistent in the hall and primary bathrooms using floating vanities and wall mounted toilets. Large limestone tile in the shower area continues on the wall opposite the vanity in the hall bathroom. Wood vanities and wood accessories bring warmth to the space and the blue accent walls add a nice pop of color. The lighted mirrors in the primary bathroom create the perfect bright and even lighting.

Primary bedroom

This bedroom became a primary bedroom by adding an adjoining private bathroom. Sliding glass doors lead to a deck and a covered lounge that's hidden from the next door neighbors.

Backyard

The backyard now feels like a wonderful place to entertain or just relax. The ipe wood deck was repaired and revitalized, new lighting was added, and the driveway was redone. Guests don't need to go through a bedroom anymore to get to the yard and can now use a door that leads out from the hallway.

Garden office

I continued the house colors on this accessory unit to unify it with the house. The space was staged as an office, but it could also be used in so many ways, from a guest space to a she shed.
