Attic Office

A modernized skylight that was installed to improve roof access. Blinds were also added, which gives lighting control and helps avoid glare on the computer screen. A bench doubles as extra storage space and provides a relaxing seating area. The floor is made of durable luxury vinyl with a light color finish to balance the darker walls. A cover to blend with the wall was custom-made for the sun tunnel servicing the kitchen below. For safety, a Nest smoke detector was added in the attic.

I replaced an old built-in plywood desk with a functional standing desk. Due to the weight restrictions of the desk base, I chose a laminate top that has the look of stone but is lightweight. Power outlets were added to a new circuit to accommodate the client's electronic devices. The file cabinet was painted to match the base of the desk. A double-head ceiling light illuminates the desk and the artwork on the wall.

I transformed another side of the attic into a lounge area by adding a cozy chaise, where one can sit and curl up with a good book or as an alternative to working at the desk. A new window replaced an air vent, and a pendant light replaced a track light. A washable rug and a bookcase with art books were added. The challenge for this area was getting the chaise into the attic!

Previously, the storage area was dark most of the time. The only lighting was a skylight in the back of the area by the chimney. With the addition of LED strip lighting and labeled fabric boxes, the space is now brighter and more organized, making it easier for the homeowners to find the things they need. I installed curtains to help screen the area from the desk across from it during video calls.
